Meezer Monday: Dream A Little Dream

For just a few months in between kitten and cat, she fit perfectly into this little box. She'd fetch mousie and jump right in, ears-up pleased and whisker-proud to fill the Puff-sized space so snug. This little Polaroid makes me so happy--she's like a little kitteh-sized loaf cake. When she got bigger, there were bigger boxes, of course, but none ever seemed so custom-made.

It's kinda like the tiny window between sunrise and moonset, when the sky sighs to make room for both. Blink and one sinks. I was lucky to be on the beach in Seattle as this happened last Wednesday morning, the blueberry-raspberry sky blushing right on my left as the silver moon made a lynxpoint connection with a demure cloud in the cosmos next door. A day starting as shy as a cat, whisker-whispering a dawn-blue hello.

For Puffelina, born January 14. The title is in reference to a dream she sent me that I was planning to write about. But this came out instead. : )

Meezer Monday: Puff 'n Stuff

If Puff ruled the world…

…like Mick at the end of this clip in which the band is listening to a recording of "Wild Horses," we'd shamelessy, blamelessly, delightfully, rightfully know that we're perfect as we are.

P.S. This blog was created 2 years ago to this very day, in honor of the great Miss Puffelina.

Meezer Monday: Leave My Kitten Alone

Miss Puffelina in da house! And some of the titles on her reading list? Wally Lamb’s She’s Come Undone (she liked it but thought it was a little over her head); Derek & Julia Parker’s Compleat Astrologer (like all astrology books, this one unfairly rags on her sun sign, Capricorn); Secrets of the Harem (boring! Like a lynxpoint Siamese kitten needs any help with belly dancing tips!) and her banged-up copy of Singers and Swingers in the Kitchen (she thinks the Rolling Stones could have contributed a better recipe than “Hot Dogs on the Rocks,” and is still pissed off about that misogynist “Under My Thumb” reference).

And when she’s finished ‘em all? This gal’s ready to blow her eardrums off—check out my super hi-fi surround sound! (No, I did NOT stack the left and right speakers on top of each other! That would be as stupid as trying to burn old letters in the oven, just until the edges got brown, I swear, and then going to the corner to buy a chocolate shake.)

I know, I know, I've already used this song in a post about Puff. I can't help it, it's the perfect Puffalicious song.

P.S. In case you’re still worried about the speakers: The bottom one broke down, or whatever the term is, preferring a more quiet life as a stand for the top one. Or maybe it just got tired of listening to K-Tel compilations.

Another One for the Puff

Like most cats, Puff was all about living in the present (face it, they pretty much have us beat on that one)—so it does feel a little weird to me to be writing a special post on the anniversary of her death. But I did buy roses for her today, a whispery purple that looked in the gray afternoon light like the velveteen backs of her ears…my favorite part of Puffer.

When I brought them home they blushed under the brighter lamp in the living room, a demure and decidedly baby pink…and I thought of the first time I saw Miss P, on what was just her third day in the world, and again on the day she came to join our family.

My song for her then and my song for her now:
